GKN Aerospace has been selected by Airbus, under a cooperation agreement, as the preferred vendor of passenger cabin windows for the A330 and A340 wide-body aircraft.
The cooperative agreement extends until 2010 and is estimated to be worth some $1.5million per annum to the Company.
Frank Bamford, Senior Vice President, Sales, Marketing and Business Development, of GKN Aerospace comments:
"This is an important move forward in our relationship with Airbus. Our corporate strategy at GKN is to work alongside our customers, growing our relationships on the basis of our performance. GKN Aerospace is already a significant design and build partner on major structural assemblies for the Airbus range of aircraft and this selection for passenger windows builds on and extends this relationship. This new agreement gives both companies the security of a dependable and reliable partnership as we innovate and develop in the coming years."
The windows selected by Airbus are GKN Aerospace 'CrystalVue II'™ windows. The proprietary coating on these windows offers high levels of craze and abrasion resistance, improved water repelling, greater stain resistance and enhanced light transmission through the window to the passenger. As a result, maintenance and replacement costs are significantly reduced and passenger satisfaction is increased. Today, more than 400,000 CrystalVue II ™ windows are in service worldwide.
As part of this agreement with Airbus, GKN Aerospace will provide 'Vendor Managed Inventory', ensuring Airbus has quick and immediate access to window supplies for each aircraft at all times. GKN Aerospace will manage the inventory, restocking to agreed minimum/maximum levels to ensure parts are always available.
